This piece is a masterful revival of Victorian Glue Chipping, a rare 19th-century technique that uses organic tension to "bloom" frost-like textures directly into the glass. Gilded in 24-carat gold leaf, the work breathes new life into a 125-year-old craft, bridging the gap between historical decorative art and modern sporting tribute.
The artwork centers on the raw geometry of Senna’s legacy. Etched into the corners of the glass are the four cathedrals of his career: Estoril, Suzuka, Monaco, and Donington. These circuits serve as the frame for the unpredictable, "icy" patterns of the gold-leafed glass—a metaphor for the speed and elemental force Senna brought to the track.
As the first in a series of four, this piece is entirely singular. While the series shares a common theme, the physical nature of the glue-chipping process ensures that the crystalline fractures in each subsequent work are dictated by nature, making every pattern unrepeatable.
