About the Artist
Born and raised in East London, Onyx is a self-taught artist whose practice emerged from an extraordinary chapter of his life. After an accident left him in a coma for several weeks, he spent a year in recovery — a period that revealed art to him as both a lifeline and a language. Creating sculptural works became a form of therapy, a way to process the profound revelations and subconscious insights he experienced during his time in the hospital.
"A memory of the future is only possible if you have been there," Onyx says. His artworks reflect this belief, guiding viewers into an imagined dystopian future shaped from fragments of the past. He constructs abstract realities from found and discarded objects, transforming them from simple toys or classical figures into vessels of deeper memory. Presented within gleaming perspex display cases, his works appear as artefacts from the near future — bound together in luminous gold chrome, radiating a striking metallic presence that embodies both transformation and transcendence.
